How Will The Green Space Project Work?

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

Firstly, let me remind you of what The Green Space Project (a.k.a TGSP for short) is trying to achieve; making it easier for schools to develop and implement green spaces. TGSP is still being developed and getting fine-tuned as we speak. Luckily, it's safe to say that the project has a clear direction into how everything will run and be successful! But how will this happen? By following the three main project goals, advocation, education, and engagement, of course! These goals are essentially the steps involved with how TGSP will work.

Step #1 - Advocation

  • Firstly, to grab the attention of schools, TGSP will advocate the benefits of green spaces and how they pose many advantages for the staff & students.

  • This is completed through the blog posts, posts through social media and the distribution of case studies/testimonials from schools that have found success in their green spaces.

  • To proceed to the next step, schools interested in the project will need at least one school representative (a teacher or some other staff member) and a minimum of 4 students. This group will be known as the school's "Green Space Team."

Step #2 - Education

  • Secondly, the Green Space Team will undergo some training that will cover various topics to help develop certain skills and knowledge to help with the development and implementation phase of their green space(s).

  • The topics for these workshop modules include:

    • Basics on Climate Change

    • Green Spaces and Green Initiatives

    • Leaders and Collaborators of Tomorrow

    • Project Planning 101

  • The Green Space Team will also be provided with additional toolkits to provide additional help, such as sample planners/budget templates, a list of funding/grant opportunities, etc.

  • After training, the Green Space Team is ready to spend the next few months developing and implementing their green spaces either within the current academic year or for the following year (as time permits).

Step #3 - Engagement

  • Finally, it's time to showcase your implemented green spaces to the school after many months of hard work!

  • Depending on the green space(s) the school decides to implement, they will present different effects and levels of engagement among the school population.

  • These green spaces will also require some form of maintenance since so much money and hard work went into creating them in the first place!

Please note that this layout is not definite but offers an idea of how the overall project will work; certain steps may be changed or slightly altered when the actual project launches. Hopefully, this gives a clearer picture of the functionality of The Green Space Project and an idea of what the project will look like when it fully launches!
